Has it been less than a week since you purchased the product?

As with other electrical appliances, new products such as air purifiers, can emit a slight odour from the product or filter during the first few days of use. 

All Coway's products are tested and certified for performance and safety and the smell does not mean that the product is harmful. With normal use, this smell usually disappears within a week as the product filters odors and impurities. 

If the smell does not disappear after a while, please contact our support team at support@eu.coway.com for further advice. Kindly provide the below information in the email:

  • Product Serial Number: The serial number is located on the back or side of the item and consists of 18 characters, including letters and numbers.
  • Order Number
  • Description of the smell: For example, smoke, strong plastic or chemical smell, etc.


Has it been more than a week since you purchased your product?

1. Please ensure that you clean the pre-filter and replace filters on time. A bad smell often results from poorly managed filters.

2. Depending on the environment it's used in, the filter may smell due to the adsorption of many odour-producing substances, in which case it should be replaced. For example, if the filter is used in a humid environment, it will become partially wet and this may cause odour. While activated carbon filters reduce odour, they have their limitations when environmental factors go beyond that. In this case, the filter needs to be replaced.

On the other hand, if the odour is caused by absorption of odour-causing substances on the product itself, you should stop using it, remove all filters, turn off the power, and dry the product in a sunny place to remove the odour first. Sometimes an odour remover is helpful.
